Preventive Health Overview
Preventive health care is a broad range of health services that share the same goal: to help patients avoid potentially serious health issues. Some services are for early diagnosis and treatment, while other services reduce your chance of developing health issues altogether. Preventive health care services can have long-term benefits, both for your health and for your budget.
You may already be using some preventive health care services without realizing it. The annual physical exam is one of the most common preventive health care service people use.
The Empire Plan covers a wide range of preventive health care services. In many cases, if the service is done with an in-network provider, you won’t have a copayment. These services include:
- Annual physical exams
- Vaccines for common viruses
- Cancer screenings
- Screenings for depression and anxiety
- Certain preventive medications
A complete list can be found in our publication Empire Plan Preventive Care Coverage Guide. (Or, if you’re in SEHP, you can find learn more in SEHP Preventive Care Coverage Guide.)
